Banjo Paul is missing in action!

Where is Banjo Paul?

For the first time since I began this blog back in mid-2009, we saw three weeks go by without a single blog post from me. That’s a far cry from the commitment I made to put up 3 blog posts per week! So what gives? Did I quit? Did I get lost in the wilderness? Did I get abducted by aliens? Hmmmm….

Traveling, helping, working, working, working…no rest for the wicked!

Many of my readers have become more like friends, and many of them write to me privately with stories and opinions and comments. That’s one of the most rewarding things about running this blog. It’s for this reason that I try to have these little “chats” like the one you are reading. It’s a chance for me to catch you up on what’s going on with me.

I’m very blessed in that a dream of mine seems to be coming true: supporting myself via self-employment. I’ve spent the better part of 4 years building up a business of web designing, coding, and blogging, along with attracting a roster of both online and in-person banjo students. I lost my unrelated day job early in 2009 and so decided to jump in with both feet and make a go of this.

Be careful what you wish for!

It seems that over the last 3 months or so, the web clients have been coming out of the woodwork. I’m truly blessed because of that but I’m quickly learning my limitations! My first week of not putting up any blog posts was due to my web design job blossoming and expanding. I probably took on close to 10 new websites in the last 3 months, and I’m still plugging away at them. There are times when I’m getting a bit overwhelmed and finding it hard to manage it all. I guess they call this growing pains, and I’m glad to be experiencing them. Likely if this keeps up I’ll need to expand and take on a partner in time. This is a good problem to have! I’m especially blessed when you think about the fact that I don’t advertise. Everything has come word-of-mouth, and God truly is blessing me.

Two weeks ago I got a call from my good good friend in Florida to say that her mom got admitted to the hospital and that she was in a real pickle because her mom cares for my friend’s daughter, and also runs the household while my friend works. Considering that I am self employed and have a bit of freedom (yes, ladies and gentlemen, I LOVE self employment for this reason) I offered my services. In exchange for free air fare to Florida, I became a live-in nanny, chauffer, maid, and gopher for what was supposed to be a few days. I was gone two weeks! Her mom is still not out of the hospital, but my friend was able to make other arrangements so that I could get back home. And here I am! Life down there made it tough to complete my regular coding and blogging activities (I did what coding I could but had to put the blogging on hold) so I wasn’t able to post anything.

Back to the daily grind

And so I’m back in the saddle. I’m sitting here firmly ensconced in the Attila The Hun chair at Banjos Rule, typing on the golden keyboard, putting out my magic once again. (I hear you laughing! Stop it.) I’m trying hard to get all of my ducks in a row and keep at it! I may have lost some readers from not having any new material for most of 3 weeks now, but I thank the few and the faithful for sticking with me! Give me a holler by leaving comments in the section below, and let me know what’s been up with you lo these past 3 weeks. I hope all is well and I’m really glad you took the time to come back and read this. Have a great week and I’ll see you in the next blog post!

    Hi Paul
You sure know how to be a good friend. You are allowed and entitled to a life and sometimes life gets in the way of…well…life!
I’ve been pretty quiet on the banjo front myself ( my life getting in the way!) but am now back at it as much as ever. Plugging away at back-up and learning a new simple tune every week or so. Ballad of Jed Clampett is current tune and I can’t help but laugh everytime I try to play it, it’s such a happy happy tune.
Good to have you back though and well done on the work front, am delighted for you.
    Elizabeth

“I’m sitting here firmly ensconced in the Attila The Hun chair at Banjos Rule,”…I’ve been meaning to ask you about the rams horns and pelt you have mounted on that chair….

I told my wife the other night that you had either spent Easter in Florida (I know how you like the warm weather) or….couldn’t make bail!

    Good to have you back.

Well Paul, if you had to go on hiatus, at least you chose the right time to do it. Usually if I have any free time to spend I grab the banjo and start pluckin’, but I will admit that I’ve managed to trade in some of that time for some March Madness. I’m a Duke fan, so I’ve been catching a lot of games. Glad you are back~ that was a really good thing that you did~ George
