Funny enough like you I have been getting a deeper understanding and love for Earl's music. I have watched a ton of utube videos and am slowly working my way through FMB. I've noticed he plays it in a simple but fee flowing way and doesn't over complicate it with licks and embelishments, just amazing skill and panache. Now that's how I want to play. I'm looking forward to my trip to Michigan and practising backup like crazy. Am also looking forward to meeting you in person. As with many thing in life,... you don't know, what you don't know. Then when you are "exposed" to it,... it breathes new life into whatever it is you are doing. I also think it puts more fun into it because it challenges you again and THAT is what makes if fun. I was told a long time ago that the only thing that stops YOU from achieving something is ....YOU. In horsemanship, we call that good, better, best. Ya think you are good until someone (usually someone who has achieved a status of "best") shows you that you can be better.
